Graduate Students

Hannah J. Harbin

PhD Candidate

In December 2017, I graduated from Lubbock Christian University with a BS in chemistry and mathematics. I obtained this degree as a collegiate athlete playing basketball at the DII level.  Currently, I am a PhD candidate in Dr. Khatib’s lab pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering. My research focuses on hydrogen production through novel materials used in catalytic methane decomposition. In my free time, I enjoy camping, hiking, and walking my dog Belle.

Noel Emanuel Joy

PhD Candidate

I was born and raised in Surabaya, Indonesia, and graduated from Oregon State University in 2020 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. I joined TTU's Chemical Engineering PhD program immediately after, and I am currenlty researching methane dehydroaromatization on ZSM-5-supported molybdenum catalysts. When not doing research, I enjoy playing music and keeping up with all things related to competitive gaming/esports!

George Hana

PhD Candidate

I am a Chemical Engineering PhD student and I am currently working with catalytic membrane reactors. Prior to that, I obtained a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University and a M.S. from Rutgers University. During my free time I enjoy strength training and playing sports.

Md Sifat Hossain

PhD Candidate

I am from Bangladesh, and I obtained my B.S. in Chemical Engineering from  Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 2018. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD degree in Chemical Engineering at Texas Tech University. My primary research focus is to optimize the methane dehydroaromatization process by analyzing the reaction kinetics and dynamic structural evolution of metal-loaded zeolite catalysts. In my leisure time, I enjoy sports and going out with friends.

Teja defended in MS thesis dissertation titled "Kinetic Regime Determination and Metal Loading Effects in Methane Aromatization" in 2017.

Farah Jacob

M.S. Chemical Engineering

PhD student

Fariha Afnan

I have started as a PhD student in the Chemical Engineering Department at Texas Tech University. I obtained my B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 2018. I am currently working on catalyst preparation by atomic layer deposition in Dr. Khatib’s research group. I love traveling, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends in my free time.

Andrew Gearin

I am a senior student from Tigard, Oregon and will complete my Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering in May 2022. During Summer 2021 I worked as a process engineering intern at Jacob's Engineering in the Advanced Facilities Group. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, playing disc golf witth my friends, and watching college sports.

Carlos Hernandez

I am a senior student at Texas Tech University majoring in Chemical Engineering with minors in chemistry and math. After graduation, I plan on becoming a process engineer in the oil and gas industry. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, and cooking.

Tate Harvey
